Kimono Centerpiece VasesLimited Quantities! Kimono Centerpiece Vases on Sale Now
Local artist, Sue Baldwin, uniquely designed and crafted kimono centerpiece vases for the Nikkei Concerns' 30th Anniversary auction tables. Lucky bidders were able to purchase them at the event. In response to popular demand, prepayment orders are being accepted. There are four colorations on the vases to represent the four seasons; pink and green for spring, rust-tone for fall, gold & green for summer, and white & teal for winter. Orders and payment of $75.00 per vase are being accepted at the receptionist's counter at Seattle Keiro or by calling Lillian Hayashi at 206.323-7100. Proceeds will go to a Season of Support for Seattle Keiro residents

ONE INDIVIDUAL CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE....VOLUNTEER TODAY!

Volunteering for Nikkei Concerns is a great way to meet new people and make a positive difference in the lives of our residents. Here are ways to be involved. If interested, contact Amy French at (206) 726-7830 or afrench@nikkeiconcerns.org.

  • Volunteer van and/or bus drivers wanted for residents' activity outings on Thursdays and Fridays. Commercial driver's license required for bus drivers. Will train and assist in obtaining commercial driver's license if interested.
  • Volunteer licensed beautician wanted to give haircuts, style, and/or perms to residents at Seattle Keiro Nursing Home.
  • Hydration Cart Volunteers wanted for Nikkei Manor Assisted Living Facility to offer beverages to residents. Volunteer any day from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Weekday Activities Volunteers wanted to help activities staff to invite residents to join in activities. Assist staff in preparing activities and encouraging participation.
  • Volunteer Entertainers wanted to bring holiday cheer to the residents of Seattle Keiro Nursing Home and Nikkei Manor Assisted Living Facility. Share your or your group's talents with the residents!

Kokoro Kai Participants Need Volunteer Drivers!
Volunteers use their own vehicles to drive Kokoro Kai participants. Drivers are especially needed in Bellevue, Mercer Island, North Seattle, West Seattle and Renton. For more information, contact Naoko Ulstein at (206) 726-6474 or naokou@nikkeiconcerns.org

Festive decorations are a very special part of the Christmas season. We'll walk through the beautiful Bellevue Botanical Gardens and see how the garden blooms in the middle of winter with thousands of lights used to create these unique botanical displays. Prior to our night light viewing we'll enjoy a unique Japanese dinner at the new Flo Restaurant.

Workshops
Osechi Ryoui: Traditional Japanese New Years Cooking! Still OPEN!
Traditional New Years cooking in Japan is an elaborate production of delectable dishes, each with its own symbol of hope for the coming year. This workshop will teach you more about the history and meaning behind each dish, and introduce you to a few recipes you can try at home. This class will be part participation and demonstration. Students will have the opportunity to taste some of the final products. Yuki Chikamura is an avid cook of Japanese cuisine who has worked with professional chefs and taught cooking classes in Japan and the U.S.
