NIKKEI HORIZONS WELCOMES NEW MANAGER

Kaori HigashinoPlease join us in welcoming Kaori Higashino to our Nikkei Concerns family. As the past Program Coordinator at SE Seattle Senior Center and prior to that as an intern at the Wallingford Senior Center, Kaori brings a wealth of experience in development, leadership, interpersonal skills and knowledge required to lead our ever popular and growing program.

Kaori came to Seattle in December of 1999 from Osaka, Japan. She received her degree in Social Services from Evergreen State College and holds an AAS degree in graphic design from Seattle Central Community College. She is also familiar to many staff and residents, especially at Nikkei Manor where she volunteered to design and produce the program brochure for Nikkei Horizons in 2001. Kaori also volunteered for Kokoro Kai for a year and a half before becoming an activity assistant for Nikkei Manor.

We welcome Kaori to her new role at Nikkei Concerns!

Now it's your turn. The group decides where to dine from a list of options presented by your escort. Let your taste buds decide! Enjoy the company, sightsee and possibly shop along the way.

You'll need a clean sharp pair of hand shears, preferably sharp pointed, a pair of pliers, a wire cutter and any other tools you think are appropriate. Glenn Gardner has been active in Bonsai for more than 25 years during which time he has studied with local artists and worked in a Bonsai nursery.

Chihuly Glass Tour
Dale Chihuly is internationally renowned for his work in glass and is celebrated for his massive glass installations. This tour will take us to Tacoma, Chihuly's birthplace, where Bonnie Gallagher, a Chihuly enthusiast and expert, will be our guide as we visit the Tacoma Art Museum, Union Station and the Chihuly Bridge of Glass. We'll also view private installations in the UW Tacoma Library and the Tacoma News Tribune building. The final stop will be The Swiss Tavern, where we'll enjoy lunch with Bonnie while admiring the eight Chihuly Venetians across the top of the bar. There's a bit of walking on this tour, so wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
